Get Ready For Black Friday!

It’s just a few short days until Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when merchants across the country hope to lure you into their stores to buy the hottest toys, electronics and fashions for the holidays.

You’ve got to be ready.

Make your list and check it twice. If you haven’t already started shopping, then start doing some thinking. Make list of every person you plan to buy (or make) a gift for. Don’t forget tipping your newspaper carrier, your kids’ teachers, hostess gifts, etc.

Think about what gifts to get each person. The more thought you put into this, the more value you will be getting for your time and money. The person will appreciate your thoughtfulness and you won’t waste money on something someone doesn’t want.

Make a budget. You must figure out exactly how much you want to spend… and STICK to this budget.

Find the cash. It is so tempting to put purchases on a credit card. Don’t do it unless you are absolutely positive you will pay off the card IN FULL the instant you get the bill. (We do this so we can earn the credit card rewards, but it takes an incredible amount of discipline).

Plan your strategy. The internet has many websites that will give you the inside scoop on what will be on sale the day after Thanksgiving. One of my favorites is Black Friday Ads. Obviously, you’ll want to scan the real fliers to be sure you don’t waste time hunting for a phantom deal, but it’s a good way to tell if it makes more sense to sleep in on Nov. 28! Figure out which items are critical to your list, find the best deals, and plan to go to those stores first. If you can bring a friend or relative, it will help you divide and conquer at busy stores!

Don’t forget about online deals.
Many stores such as Walmart and Amazon will be offering a steady stream of awesome deals you can get right from home. Rumor has it that Walmart will offer free shipping from their website to your local store. You can also check out Retailmenot.com and freeshipping.org to find all the online savings. And remember to check it all out again on Cyber Monday!

Don’t get caught up in the hoopla! It is so easy to get caught up in all of the excitement and blow money on stuff you don’t need. That is exactly what merchants want you to do. Get lots of rest the night before, set a budget, have a plan, and you’ll find some great deals.

Happy Savings!
