Today I have a short interview with one of my favorite blogs, No Debt Plan.
No Debt Plan is about getting and staying out of debt with a plan. Kevin, the author, is passionate about budgeting, saving for the future, and using goals to reach financial freedom. (Does that sound familiar or what?) You can subscribe to his blog by RSS or email.
This interview is part of a new feature he’s developed called Subscriber Swap Saturday. The basic idea is to get the subscribers of one blog to subscribe to the other blog for at least a week, just to try it out. (It is FREE after all!) After a week if you don’t find that blogger’s content enticing, drop it. The hope is that over time you will find several writers that you weren’t familiar with who provide meaningful content to you. You can read more about Subscriber Swap Saturday at his blog, along with an interview with me, aka Northern Cheapskate! This is the third Subscriber Swap he’s run, and I’m honored to participate!
And now, here is my interview with Kevin at No Debt Plan.
Northern Cheapskate: What are your favorite topics to write about on your blog?
No Debt Plan: I’m a real budgeting geek. I try to make budgeting seem easy and exciting rather than dry and mundane. I like to talk about my experiences with credit cards, too.
Northern Cheapskate: How often do you work on your blog? How do you balance the demands of blogging with work and family?
No Debt Plan: I’m working on my blog usually every day of the week for at least an hour. If I can get myself really motivated, I can spend a few extra hours and write some posts for later in the week to save some effort. Unfortunately I’m not very good at that
Northern Cheapskate: Who inspires you to be frugal?
No Debt Plan: I wouldn’t say I have one specific person that inspired me to become frugal. If I had to pick it would be my parents. They lived within their means, and my Dad got me a subscription to Money magazine when I was in college. Truly my budget helps me stay frugal — if the money isn’t there, we don’t buy it.
Northern Cheapskate: What personal finance/frugal living books do you recommend? No Debt Plan: Ooo, you caught me. I haven’t read a ton of personal finance books. Terrible, I know. I’m more into blogs and magazines. My primary magazine is still Money. The articles usually hit home for me and are just the right length to keep my attention. I’ve heard good things about The Automatic Millionaire, and I understand the premise so I would recommend that book as well.
Northern Cheapskate: I love to look at the small stuff when it comes to saving money, so I loved your post 2 Reasons You Should Care About My Toothpaste Savings. How do you find the best deals for saving money on the everyday stuff? Do you have a favorite internet resource for finding deals?
No Debt Plan: Glad you liked the article! I was doing some initial research into this “grocery game” business, and discovered the Hot Coupon World forums. They listed all of the ads and coupon combinations for our local grocery store. Usually I just check coupons.com to see if there is anything on there we normally buy that we could save money with. We also use Walgreen’s Easy Saver program.
Be sure to stop by No Debt Plan and read more great posts on living a debt-free life. And don’t forget to subscribe to his blog. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.
