Month in Review: February

Wow, is it just me, or did February just breeze by?

This month was good for us in terms of spending, and not just because it was a short month… It was a good month compared to February 2008, too. I did not make my goal of saving 40 percent on groceries… but I did save $40, which is something.  Our expenses went down in every single category except eating out, which stayed the same (Valentine’s Day and both of my parents’ birthdays land in February and I just really like eating out!).

So while I wasn’t able to take on the No Spend Challenge, we did manage to reduce our spending for the month, and I learned a lot from the Mom Advice No Spend Challenge anyway.

I managed to get a few more lightbulbs replaced with compact flourescent bulbs, so we should see a little bit of a savings from that.  We saved $161.14 using coupons this month (and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to double coupons at Kmart).  Other than that, our kids battled colds and I went through their dressers to find clothes that don’t fit them anymore.  I’ll be taking those to sell on consignment soon.

My goal for March is to keep everyone healthy and to hold the line on our spending.  I’ll finish replacing the last of the lightbulbs with CFLS.  We’ll also try to set up a Roth IRA for the money we’re saving from our home refinance.

So how did your month go?  What are your financial goals for March?
