Reader Shares Internet Shopping Experience

I just love hearing about good deals… especially when people are saving money on things they need!

My frugal friend and creative digital scrapbook designer Shel shared this story with me:

My primary computer is nearly four years old and only has about 1GB of RAM. Lately, I’ve been having more and more trouble opening documents and running actions in Photoshop; I kept getting “not enough RAM” error messages which is really frustrating if you’re working with large files. I’ve been giving some thought to increasing the RAM for a while now, but haven’t gotten serious about it until today.

I used the SwagBucks search engine for “increase RAM” and one of the sites listed was Crucial.com. I entered the manufacturer, product line, and model of my computer. (If you don’t know that information, you can download and run a small program that will determine that for you.) I learned that I was able to upgrade my computer to 4GB and the site recommended products for me.

The price seemed good but I wondered if I could do better. I went to sites that Crucial recommended in their “Other Places to Buy” portion of the site. A quick glance to make sure I was comparing the same products to one another and after about 20 minutes I found an online retailer where I could purchase the new RAM, pay no sales tax, and get a $3 instant rebate on each GB PLUS free 3-day UPS shipping. By spending about 20 minutes online comparison shopping, I saved nearly $60 and would get the products delivered to me in three business days rather than 7-12. Boy am I glad I shopped around on this purchase!

And the best part, not only did I save myself nearly $60, I also earned 5 SwagBucks in the process. Definitely a good retail day for me!

Shel’s experience is a great reminder to use the internet to your advantage!  It’s pretty easy to get caught in a rut and shop the same online retailers when spending a little bit of time could save you a lot more money.  And using Swagbucks will help her earn gift certificates she can use on future purchases.

So what great deal have you found online recently?
