A few months ago, I wrote about frugal ways to get a good night’s sleep.
I mentioned the clock that my boys have. It’s a nifty little nightlight/alarm clock that you can set to change colors at a particular time. It’s been a lifesaver in our house, because our boys know that it’s not time to wake up until the clock turns green. (We used to have boys who thought it was time to wake up at 4 a.m.!)
The clock also has a teaching feature, and can be used as just an ordinary alarm clock when the child outgrows the nightlight.
It’s a pretty awesome little clock, but unfortunately the price tag isn’t little.
So I was excited when I read a great suggestion from a parent in a recent issue of Parents magazine. One mom suggested plugging your child’s night light into an electric timer switch, so that the nightlight shuts off when it’s okay for the child to wake up. Brilliant!
Electric timers (or security timers, as they’re sometimes called), can be found for under $20. You can find them at just about any home improvement, hardware, or discount department store.
Not too bad for a decent night’s sleep!
