Simple Security

The following is a guest post from my frugal friend, Guest Blogger Susan.

I opened the door that leads from the house to the garage the other day and found I LEFT THE GARAGE DOOR OPEN ALL NIGHT!  I calmed myself down and made sure nothing was missing and went to work.  In the lunchroom, I was relaying my story and found that most everyone sitting there had done the same thing in the past year.   No one had anything stolen so… no harm, no foul, right?  However, it got me thinking about safety.

I live in a lovely suburban neighborhood where I feel perfectly safe.  I never locked the door between the garage and the kitchen and I only do the deadbolt on the front door.  I sometimes leave the car in the driveway when I know I have to leave again in an hour or two and don’t always lock the door.  What harm would it do to develop the habit of locking all the house doors?  Would I hurt anything by locking the car if it was not in the garage?

I have no idea the statistics on burglary and unlocked doors but there has to be some deterrent in a locked door right?  I already have a spare set of car and house keys in my purse and at my brother’s house so if I do get locked out I won’t have to break a window.

Plus (and this is the best part) it will cost me nothing.
