September is national Library Card Sign-up month. It’s a terrific time to get reacquainted with your old frugal friend, the library.
Libraries are such a fabulous way to be entertained for free. Books, music, DVDs, programs, computer use – the list of free services is a frugalista’s dream!
But there’s one little catch. You have to remember to return things on time, or you’ll face lots of fines, or even lose your library priviledges.
During the month of September, my local library is offering Forgiveness Fridays, during which they will forgive your overdue book fines if you just return the items you checked out on a Friday. Check to see if your library has a similar promotion, and start with a clean slate.
Then check out Library Elf. Library Elf is a unique service that will send you a message via e-mail or via text message on your cell phone when you have something due back at the library.
Library Elf offers a basic, free service, but if you want to manage your entire family’s library usage, you can subscribe to a premium service for $20 a year. Before subscribing, be sure to check if your local library is a subscriber to Library Elf. You may be eligible for the premium services for FREE.
Happy reading (and saving!)
