September was a pretty good month for our budget.
We did splurge, a little on a new refrigerator, but all in all, nearly every one of our categories was either right on track or under budget. The only category that took a jump was gas, and that’s because I’m running our boys to preschool and other activities.
Our biggest accomplishment was eating out less in September. We also spent less on groceries than we have been. These two things seem to correlate with the fact that I did reorganized our entire pantry. I also cleaned out our fridge and did an inventory check of our chest freezer. The result is that we’ve been living off the contents of our stockpile instead of eating out or running to the grocery store.
Because we’ve been living off our stockpile, my coupon use really dipped this month – just $130.92 in savings. We just haven’t needed much.
Fall weather has definitely arrived, so in October, I hope to sell some children’s clothing on consignment, and fill in a few gaps in my pantry staples in preparation for the winter months. I’m also starting to think about the holidays and am watching for deals.
How did September go for you? What kinds of things do you hope to accomplish in October?
