December 2009 was not a good budgeting month for us, but the good thing is that I didn’t expect it to be.
You see, I had enough of a cushion built up so that when the added expenses of December came around, it didn’t really stress me out.
We ate out more than usual, we bought Christmas gifts, and I stocked up on some items. I watched what I was spending, but I was much more relaxed about it.
December ended up being a very reflective month for me. I spent a lot of time thinking about what things were important to me, goals that I wanted to set, and areas of my personal finances that I wanted to work on.
I didn’t do any writing for the blog for nearly a week – which is the longest I’ve stepped away from the blog since I’ve started. It felt really energizing to take the break and I’m happy to be back at the keyboard again. I used the month of December to set some goals for the blog, too.
I also used the time to connect with family and friends – something that’s easy to push aside during the business of everyday life. I’m learning that finding a balance in life is a good thing, too!
By now you’ve read my new year’s resolutions. My plans for January involve chipping away on some of those – mainly starting (and sticking to) an exercise routine and improving my diet through better menu planning.
I’ve been a bit lax on the couponing, so I’m also going to dive back into slashing my grocery bills, too.
How did your December go? What goals have you set for January?
