I always enjoy checking out bridal registries. It’s interesting to me to see how practical or impractical their registries are.
Kitchen gadgets just seem to be made for young brides armed with the registry gun at Target. Of course, these gadgets may cost you a pretty penny. Of course, we frugal types know that there are some inexpensive, make-do alternatives:
Food processor. A sharp chef’s knife and a bit of practice is all it takes to be slicing and dicing in no time.
Rice cooker. Now, I will not lie. I love my rice cooker. But if you don’t have one, you can cook it on the stove, in the microwave, or even in your oven.
Electric can opener. It’s really not all that hard to use a manual can opener. Really.
Popcorn popper. You don’t need a fancy air popper to make popcorn. You can make it in a pan on the stove or in a paper bag in the microwave.
Electric fry pan. Sure you can cook a lot of things at once in it, but they’re usually a pain to wash. Just use a skillet on the stove.
Fondue pot. If you already have a slow cooker, you have all you need to make fondue!
What are some alternatives you’ve found to high priced kitchen gadgets?
