5 Cheap But Fabulous Bath Tub Toys

With three boys ages 4 and under, time (and hot water) are at a premium.  We often end up having all three boys take a bath together to save time and energy.

They boys have got a fair amount of bath tub toys that they’ve gotten for gifts, but I’ve come to realize that kids really don’t need a lot of expensive tub toys to enjoy bath time.

Here are a few cheap, but fabulous bath tub toys:

Cups.  Kids love pouring things from one cup to another and watching the water pour out.   Use

Spray bottles.  Fill a spray bottle with warm bath water and let them mist themselves and the tub.  Maybe they’ll even clean it while they’re in there.

Old margarine tubs make great little boats. They’re also good for scooping  water.

Bubbles.  Homemade bubbles can be a great way to get your little ones excited about bath time.  Just mix ½ cup of dishwashing liquid, 2 cups of water, and 2 teaspoons of sugar. Add a drop of food coloring for fun. Don’t want to make your own bubbles?  You can usually find bubble solutions at your local dollar store.

Washcloth puppets.  Make a puppet out of washcloths and you’ll have fun getting your little one clean.

Regardless of what toys your kids play with in the tub, you might want to have a towel nearby in case there is some exuberant splashing.  Not that I would know anything about that…

Do you actually let the diswashing liquid touch your kids' skins? Really? I wouldn't.

@Anonymous – I wasn't suggesting a bubble bath with dishsoap! I'm talking about making a bubble solution and using a bubble wand to blow bubbles at them while they play in the tub. The dishsoap in the bubble solution is so diluted that it is totally safe.

Sorry if I wasn't clear!
