Six Months Into My New Year’s Resolutions…

There’s a saying that goes something like this:  “Begin with the end in mind.”

That is how I started 2010 when I made out my list of New Year’s Resolutions.   I wanted to come up with a list of goals to work on throughout the year,  a process I failed at when I did the same thing in 2009!

While I haven’t actively been working on each and every resolution, I realize that I must – at least on a subconscious level – be working on them.  I’m on track for a great year!

Here’s how I’m doing:

Finally lose that 20 pounds I’ve been saying I’m going to lose. I’ve lost 12 pounds since January.  Lately, I’ve fallen off the diet wagon… and I never even really got on the exercise wagon, so I know exactly what I need to do in the second half of 2010.

Trim my food budget in half. This is the one area that I still really need to work on. When I first started Weight Watchers, I fell into the trap of eating a lot of high priced convenience foods. Now that summer is here, I can buy healthier fresh fruit and veggies for less.

Potty train my twin boys. I’m currently working on this very project, and it has proven to be a challenge.  You can follow my progress on the Pull-Ups Facebook page (just look under notes).  I’m being paid for my role as Potty Ambassador, so that is an additional motivator to get it done.

Make more environmentally-conscious decisions. Ever since I got my EsseLife tote bags, I’ve been very good about remembering to take my reusable shopping totes with me on every shopping trip. I turned down the thermostat this winter and have it turned up a little this summer. I’m line drying my clothes more often and I even planted my very first garden.

Read at least six novels. This was a goal I set because I feel like all I ever read is personal finance and parenting books. While those are enjoyable, I think it’s good to let yourself be immersed in great fiction, too. I’ve read four novels so far.

I feel good that I’m making progress on my New Year’s Resolutions, and feel even better that I took the time to review them. Goal setting is critical to living the life you want, and reviewing those goals is the best way to stay on track.

Did you make New Year’s Resolutions? How are you doing with your goals?
