Children under the age of 5 can get a free book every month thanks to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The program is in communities across the US , Canada and the UK and is designed to promote children’s interest in reading and learning.

There are no income guidelines for this community-based program.  Every child ages 0-5 who lives in an area served by the program is eligible to get a free, age-appropriate book mailed to their home every month until they turn 5.

This is a great way to build your child’s library and encourage your child’s love of books.

Find out if your community is participating and how you can get involved in the program.

I’ve signed my daughter up, for this program, three times since the very day she was born, and she has yet to receive a single book. She’ll be two in September.

Great program, the draw back is you have to live in a community that is participating. The Grand Rapids Area Library Foundation looked at participating, but to have it a self sustaining program we would have had to raise well over a $100,000. It’s a wonderful program and the books are discounted it’s just hard for small rural communities to get the monetary resources to participate.

Heather – That’s really weird… Have you contacted the United Way of NE MN directly? I’ve known other families who are receiving their books on the East Range.

Sarah B. – I agree Sarah… It’s so expensive… I wonder if there would be any grant money available to help with such an undertaking??? Or if the program could be scaled back… Each child gets a book every other month or something?

Yep, twice. I finally just gave up. That’s okay, though, as long as others are getting. them. Maggie has a ton of books. I saved all mine from when I was little! =)
