Those of you who are personal finance junkies may already be familiar with JD Roth as the author of the very popular blog Get Rich Slowly. He’s clawed his way of out debt, turned his finances around and become a personal finance guru. I’ve enjoyed his blog for several years now, and the book is a good read as well.
Your Money: The Missing Manual is written for folks who are just becoming acquainted with their personal finances. Roth walks you through how to make financial decisions and set goals, how to budget and eliminate debt, and how to use credit wisely.
His book gives solid ideas for how to save on everyday items and guides you through the big ticket-items, too. Roth also shares his advice for saving for retirement.
I enjoyed this book because it covers practical topics that aren’t common in many of today’s personal finance books (how to choose a bank, cancel a credit card, and how to make more money) in a simple way. The advice comes in short, easy-to-digest sections that make personal finance interesting.
Your Money: The Missing Manual is loaded with places to go for additional information. If there was a downside to this book, it’s that there were so many web addresses that I wanted to go visit that I became a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. But if you’re craving a wealth of personal finance info, then this book is a gold mine of information with the additional resources you can find online.
