Another Reminder to Check Those Receipts

If you’re a serious couponer, than you’ve spent considerable time and effort in to making sure you’ve matched the right coupons up to the right products.

But what if the retailer fails to give you the proper discount?

According to a news story on WCCO-TV in Minneapolis, Target stores have been accused of not giving customers the full discount for coupons used at their stores.

While, this isn’t the first time there have been issues with Target and coupons, I’m betting that they’re not the only retailer who hasn’t been ringing up coupons properly.

The bottom line is this:  Remember to check your receipts before you leave any store and if there is a problem, address it immediately with customer service.  If you don’t like the response you get, keep going up the food chain until you’ve exhausted your options.

The only way companies can learn from this and consumer rights can be protected is if we get noisy.

I completely agree with you! But sometimes, it can be so hard to make a stink about a 50 cent coupon, you know? I’ve had issues with Walgreens before, and whenever I bring up the problem, the cashier acts like I am a crazy person quibbling over a couple of quarters. Just another reason frugality is tough!

A Walmart clerk recently rang up my order before closing out of the previous customer’s transaction, thus making my bill over $30 more than it should have been. Luckily, I checked it when I arrived home. It took a return trip to the store and a 25 minute wait to get it straightened out. If the clerk hadn’t remembered me, it would have taken several days for records to be reviewed, etc.

target’s receipts are so hard to understand. when you use a coupon it breaks it down even more. i can see how they are getting by not giving the proper discount. u need a degree on how to read it.
and don’t get me started on them not giving you the 5 cent discount when you use re-usuable bags. if they don’t do it before they hit the total button…you are not getting that 5 cents off.

Erin, I agree. There have been times when I’ve tried to check my Target receipt, and I can’t figure out if they’ve given me the full value of a coupon or not. And I need to remind them to give me my re-usable bag discount about 75% of the time. Frustrating!
