The things you hang on your wall can say a lot about your personality.
The one thing they shouldn’t say is that you spent way too much money on them.
Finding fun, attractive art to decorate your walls is all about being creative. Here are a few ideas for frugal wall décor:
Photographs. I love taking photographs of the people, places and things that mean the most to me. Turn your photos into a collage and frame them, or enlarge a few favorites and frame them. Don’t forget about those old black and white family photos you have. Photos on your walls can make great conversation starters.
Posters. Keep your eyes open for inexpensive posters that you can frame. Ask businesses if they have promotional posters they’re not using.
Old calendars and greeting cards. Frame the pictures from old calendars or greeting cards to decorate your walls.
Make your own art. If you’re a creative type, make your own drawings or paintings and frame them. When I was in college, my roommate wanted to be an attorney, so we decorated our door with the “Attorneys” listings from an old copy of the Yellow Pages.
A child can do it. If making your own art isn’t your thing, hand your kids some paint, markers and colored pencils and have them create the artwork. Sharing a child’s artwork in a prominent location in your home is not only frugal – it helps build a child’s self-esteem and creates memories for years to come.
Stick it. Wall stickers
Paint. Use masking tape to paint stripes on your wall or to create a a block of color behind a mirror or picture. Look for paint in the clearance section of your favorite home improvement store.
Thrift Stores. You can find great paintings and other wall décor for just a few dollars at your local thrift store. Keep an eye out for quality picture frames, too.
Estate Sales. Most of what you find at estate sales is older and sometimes more expensive, but you’ll often find a better quality of art, too.

Stickers and paint can add life to dull ceilings, too!
Great suggestions. I’ve done the wall collage thing before. Have you ever gone to a poster sale? They are ridiculously expensive.
If renting a home or not wanting to damage walls, a very easy way to spruce up a room is to stencil a design on fabric, cut it out, and “paste” it to the wall using liquid starch. When dry, wipe excess starch from around the design. it will stay up forever, and will peel right off when you need to take it down! This way you can make your own “stickers”!
