Nothing to Read and No Money? No Problem!

You don’t need a fancy Kindle or Nook or iPad to be able to access free reading.

There are plenty of ways to find free books without spending any money at all:

The library. Libraries are my very favorite place to find reading material. Check out books or download MP3s .  Some libraries offer playaways, which are mini MP3 players with a recording of a book on them that you can check out.  If your library doesn’t already have a reminder service, you can use Library Elf to help keep you from racking up overdue book fines.

Borrow from a friend. Just be sure to return the book in the condition it was loaned to you.  No dog-ears, please! And don’t forget to return the favor when a friend is looking for something to read.

DailyLit. For those of you who claim you have no time to read, Daily Lit is a great way to catch up on some free reading.  You’ll get sent regular, easy-to digest e-mails of book chapters based on your schedule.  You can always find 5 or 10 minutes to read a little bit each day, and the fact that this service is free makes it that much easier.

Free e-reader apps. Even if you don’t have the Kindle, Nook, or iPad, you can still get the software apps for free.  Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders frequently offer free downloads of books (just do a search) and you can use the apps on your computer or smartphone to read them.

Use the internet. Anything you could possibly ever want to read can most likely be found on the internet.  From blogs to news to entertainment, a quick Google search (or Swagbucks search for those of you who want to earn a few goodies while searching) will provide you with hours of free entertainment.

My mom is an avid reader who used to joke that she’d read the backs of cereal boxes if she was bored enough.  Fortunately, there are many more options to choose now.
