Do you remember walking through the grocery store with your mother or grandmother, watching her rifle through the collection of coupons she’d clipped earlier in the day?  There may have even been times when you were even lucky enough to participate in the coupon hunting and clipping activities.

Clipping coupons is nothing new, but the way in which it’s conducted and the ways in which it can help grocery shoppers today has evolved quite a bit since the previous generation. Technology has made saving money at the grocery store easier, more streamlined and more fun. If you’d like to increase your savings in a more efficient way (and who doesn’t?), one or more of these grocery shopping apps can help you with the process.

Apps that help you save more on groceries

Meijer mPerks. Many smart shoppers already head to Meijer to save money on their groceries, but this large store chain wants its customers to save even more. Use the helpful Meijer mPerks app to find coupons with barcodes that can be scanned directly from your mobile device. If you’re wandering around the store looking for an item, mPerks can help you locate it. Once you find an item on your list, you can scan the barcode with this app and see if it’s offered for less anywhere else.

ValPak Grocery Store Coupons. The coupons you find in a magazine or newspaper won’t do you any good if your local store won’t honor them. ValPak grocery store coupons provide you with grocery store coupons for the stores in your immediate area. Access these printable coupons to slash your grocery bill, and extend the savings to other areas by using this app to help you find coupons and promo codes for local restaurants, shops and service-based businesses.

Coupon Clipper. A publishing company that produces many grocery shopping and frugal magazines and newsletters has produced Coupon Clipper for your coupon clipping convenience. This app helps you save money while promoting small, local businesses by providing coupons for these places.

Yowza! Mobile Coupons. Use Yowza! to search your geographical area for favorite stores and items on your grocery shopping list. Once you find the item, get instant savings as the cashier scans the coupon barcode directly from your smartphone or mobile device. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

Coupon SherpaCoupon Sherpa helps you cut down on shopping preparation by giving you access to coupons for groceries and all the other things you might find at a large store, such as electronics, clothing and home supplies. This helpful app takes things one step further by grabbing coupons posted in various places on the Internet and adding them into the app for you.

The benefits of coupon apps

One of the pitfalls for many consumers who wish to save money at the grocery store is that they don’t have time to clip and organize coupons. But coupon and grocery store apps that help you streamline the process by finding coupons for your local stores, and then storing them on your mobile device, make coupon clipping more convenient for everyone. You’ll no longer have to rifle through your purse or wallet looking for coupons, only to remember you left them sitting on the kitchen counter. Today’s methods of coupon clipping with apps means you always head to the grocery store prepared with the coupons ready to scan from your mobile device.

Does anybody else remember S&H Green Stamps? They were little stamps you would get for shopping at grocery stores. You would paste them in booklets, and when the booklets were full, you could bring them to an S&H redemption center and trade them in for all sorts of great products. I grew up in rural northern Minnesota, and once a year we would travel to Grand Forks to redeem our Green Stamps. I remember it was such a great adventure to see what we could get for free with our stamps. Kind of like freebie shopping with modern coupons!

I remember those! And one of my local grocery stores still does a version of them!
