Learn Your Options During Open Enrollment

It’s that most wonderful time of the year… when human resource staff flood your inbox or your mailbox with information about your health insurance coverage, flexible spending accounts, and more.

Don’t let this important time of year get lost in the rush of the holiday season.  Most employers only let you make changes to your employment benefits once a year during an open enrollment period, so be sure to know your options during open enrollment.

This is your chance to add health, dental and life insurance.  It is also your chance to purchase short-term and long-term disability insurance.   If you want to switch insurance plans or change your primary care clinic, this is the time of year to do it.  Read up on the pros and cons of flexible spending accounts  to determine if a flex account is something you’d like to add this year.

Be sure to read through the materials you receive from your employer. Do some research and ask questions. Make those important decisions during Open Enrollment.   You could be missing out on benefits and cost savings by letting another year slip by.

Very good post. In this busy season (and getting busier with every day) your advice to stop and think about your options for various types of heath care/insurance is excellent. Thank you for the reminder.
