Now is the time to stop putting off those dredded tasks, those things you know you should do, but just don’t want to do.
You know… like making that appointment for your annual physical, cleaning out the garage, or organizing your files.
I’m sure a few of you are protesting. I understand. I’m the queen of procrastination. I even have a little sign by my kitchen sink that reads “I’m going to stop putting things off starting tomorrow.” There are a million things I would rather be doing (including doing NOTHING) that sound better than some of things on my to-do list.
I even put off writing this post until now.
The truth of the matter is, we all have projects to tackle, and we create elaborate excuses for why they’re not done. So this year, let’s just do them!
Susan, Michelle, and Jessica and I each came up with several projects we want to get done in 2012, and each month, we’ll share one of those projects with you here on Northern Cheapskate. We’ve chosen projects designed to help us, save money, save time and simplify, and we’re hoping that by getting them done, we’ll inspire you to tackle something on your to-do list each month.
We invite you to join us in our vow to “Get it Done” this year! Start now by making a list of the projects you want to tackle and write out a plan for accomplishing them. Share them in the comments below. (Accountability helps!) Then schedule them on your calendar.
Each month, we’ll share our projects and encourage you to share your accomplishments, too.
Please join us!

“I even put off writing this post until now.” That’s funny. I was wondering if you were going to write a post introducing our undertaking.
I have much the same goal but long lists intimidate me and I just put it off longer. So, this year I’ve started something new. At the beginning of every month I make a short list of 10 or so things that I want to accomplish that month. I then keep track all month of how I am doing with the list. It has worked well this month so I have hope I might have finally found something that works, at least for awhile.
January’s list:
Use 15 items out of my stockpile: I’ve already used 45
Spend less than $150 on groceries: I’ve actually spent 152 but I am still happy
Change 5 old knobs for new knobs in the kitchen: Still to do (started 3 YEARS ago!)
Make our bread. Done
Make yogurt. Done
Super clean the bathroom. Done
Take 5 walks (PA in winter!) Four done and one to go.
Try a new recipe. Done
Plan a menu. Done
Sort ALL the Christmas stuff and give away or donate or trash (12 Containers!) All but 4 are done.
If this approach counts, I’m in.
“Plan your work, Work your plan”….If I keep repeating it I find that much more gets accomplished!
