7 Things To Buy At the End of Summer

By Justin Weinger 2 Comments

7 Things to Buy at the End of SummerThe days are getting shorter, the kids are headed back to school, and it’s time to get some great deals.

The end of summer is one of my favorite times of year for snagging some fabulous deals on a variety of products.  Check out our list of things you should shop for now, set a budget, and make your shopping list.  Then go save!

7 Things To Buy at the End of Summer

Summer clothing.  The end of summer is the perfect time to stock up on shorts, short-sleeve shirts, summer dresses, hats, sunglasses, swim suits and swim trunks, sandals and more.  You’ll see markdowns of 50 to 70% off retail prices on clothing, shoes and accessories for the entire family.

School supplies and office supplies.  Stock up on pens, pencils, paper, planners, Post-Its and more.  The end of summer offers the lowest prices you’ll find, so when you’re shopping for the kids, buy extra to have on hand for the rest of the year.   This is also an excellent time of year to pick up a laptop computer or a tablet.

Backpacks, bags and laptop cases.  If you’re in need of a backpack, a new bag for work or a laptop case, the end of summer is a great time to pick one up.  They’re often discounted for the back-to-school and back-to-college crowd and you’ll have a big selection to choose from.

Patio furniture and grills.  The end of summer means that leisurely evenings grilling on the patio are in short number.  Save 50 percent or more on patio furniture for next summer and get a new grill now if you need one.  Pick up a display model for even great savings.

Fresh produce.  The harvest is coming in and when supply is up, prices go down.  Pick up in-season produce like tomatoes, corn, potatoes, lettuce, broccoli, beans, and more at great prices.  If your budget allows, you could stock up and freeze the bounty.

Linens.  Score some good deals on bedding and bath items as the college students get ready to move into the dorms.  You won’t find savings like this on towels, sheets, and bed-in-a-bag sets until January, so shop now.

Toys.  Retailers are clearing out toys to make room for the hot new toys for the next holiday season.  Stock up on gifts for the kiddos in your life at discounts of 30 to 70 percent off.  I’ve found some great deals on Barbie, Hot Wheels, and LEGO at these end-of-summer toy clearance sales.

Remember, a deal isn’t a deal if you’re using a credit card to pay for it.  Make some room in your budget for stocking up by saving money in other areas (like using coupons) or by bringing in some extra money.   And don’t forget that if the item isn’t a good value, it doesn’t matter how good a price you get.  Shop smart!

I have purchased pools, water guns, floats and other water toys are hot weather staples for kids. Since these are seasonal items, they can be expensive at the beginning of the season — but retailers are eager to clear the shelves so these items are marked at low prices. Summer toys are also available at unlikely places like drug and grocery stores.
