Some people are very opposed to making New Year’s resolutions. I personally believe that there’s no harm in sitting down once a year and setting some goals for yourself. In fact, I think everyone should set annual goals and review them on a periodic basis.
My list of 2010 New Year’s resolutions was all about trying to simplify my life and live healthier. Some of those goals I accomplished, some I’ll be working on next year. The good thing is that I’m still thinking about them.
Here’s how I fared:
Finally lose that 20 pounds I’ve been saying I’m going to lose. Well, technically, I did lose 20 pounds. Unfortunately, I lost the same 10 pounds twice. I have no excuses; I did a lot of stress eating and didn’t exercise. I know what I need to do. I just have to do it.
Trim my food budget in half. While I managed to trim our grocery expenses, my three growing boys starting eating more, so it ended up being a bit of a wash. I’m grateful that I was able to keep our food spending contained under these circumstances.
Potty train my twin boys. They’re almost trained, but due to some circumstances outside their control, we had some setbacks in this area. I will say that one boy is very close to being trained. I think the other boy will get it after he sees his brother figure it out. A fellow parent once told me “You can’t make a kid eat, sleep or poop if they don’t want to.” So true.
Make more environmentally-conscious decisions. I feel that I’m making significant progress on this one. I’m consistently carrying reusable shopping bags now, I’m printing less and recycling more. I’m starting to grow my own food and trying to buy things that have less packaging.
Read at least six novels. I read so many non-fiction books (mostly frugal living, personal finance and parenting books) and spend most of my reading time online, that I wanted to make sure that I took some time for me to escape into a world of fiction. I completed this goal in October, and must say that the change of pace from all the non-fiction reading was quite enjoyable. I’ll definitely be pushing myself to read more novels next year.
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing my list of goals for 2011. How did you do with your 2010 New Year’s Resolutions? Did you meet your goals?
