We’ve got a new look at Northern Cheapskate!
This is big news! I’m not one to change things up very often. I think I’ve had the same haircut for about 20 years now. Northern Cheapskate just turned 7, and I figured that I shouldn’t wait 20 years to freshen things up around here.
Northern Cheapskate’s new look took me awhile (change is hard for me, remember?) because I wanted to make sure that I was keeping true to what this site is all about (helping you save money). I wanted to make sure the site was useful, easy to navigate, and reflected all of the helpful money-saving information I want to share with you.
New look, new features
A few features, I want to point out about the new design:
Northern Cheapskate is finally mobile responsive. This means that you should be able to easily view the site on your computer or any mobile device without exceesive scrolling or suffering.
The sharing buttons are easier to use. I’ve added sharing buttons on the top and bottom of posts to make it easier for you to share things you’ve read on Northern Cheapskate with your friends and family. It should also be able to share posts from your phone or tablet, too. And you’ll finally be able to pin things to Pinterest from your mobile device – a feature you’ve been asking about for awhile now. So please, share your favorite posts from Northern Cheapskate on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest!
You can print Northern Cheapskate posts. Those little sharing buttons at the top and bottom of every post also have a “Print” option, so you can print your favorite posts, DIY projects, or recipes with just a click of a button.
A cleaner look. One of the ways that I help support this site (and my family) is through advertising. There will always be ads on Northern Cheapskate, but with the new design, I’ve tried to clear out some of the visual clutter that was here before.
New navigation. Poke around the menu bar at the top of this page, and you’ll see your favorite topics (like Frugal Living and DIY Projects), as well as some new areas to explore. I think you’ll find the Seasonal Savings section useful throughout the year!
I feel like I just moved into a new house. For those of you who know that feeling, you know that there will probably be a few little changes made here and there as we get settled into our new space. If you happen to notice anything that’s missing or not working quite right, please let me know! And as always, if there’s something you’d like us to write about, let us know that, too!
This was a long, drawn out process, and I want to give a big thank you to the following folks: My husband, Aaron, who blogs at Minnesota Brown, for his support and encouragement (and for putting up with my obsessiveness!), to Aaron S. from Three Thrifty Guys for designing the money tree in our new logo (and giving me a GREAT deal on it, too!), to Dan R Morris from Blogging Concentrated for helping me iron out some of the planning for the new look, and to Mitchell from My Frugal Tech and Frugal Finders for taking care of all that behind-the-scenes stuff that I know so little about. (I guess poor Mitchell had to put up with my obsessiveness, too!).
On a sad note, we’re saying goodbye to one of our writers. After four years of writing for us, Michelle is moving on to other adventures. Thank you, Michelle, for all of the great money-saving and time-saving ideas you have brought to Northern Cheapskate. We will miss Michelle and we wish her all the best on the next leg of her journey.
Happy Holidays!
I also want to take this moment to wish you all a very happy holiday season. I’ll be taking a little bit of time off to spend time with family and friends, but I’ll be back in time to help you start the new year right!
And finally, that gift I was promising you
It’s the holidays and it just didn’t feel right without giving you a little something. So to thank you for reading Northern Cheapskate, I’ve put together a free eBook for you called Money Stress: How It Impacts Your Health (And What You Can Do About It!). To get the free eBook, just sign up for our newsletter and you’ll get it delivered right to your inbox. If you’re already getting e-mails from us, check your inbox for your own copy of the eBook.
I love it, Christina! Definitely cleaner and more modern. The navigation is smoother, and you’re so smart to focus on mobile responsiveness. Seems like everyone’s reading blogs on their phones these days!
Hope your family has a wonderful holiday :)
Love the new cleaner digs. Thanks so much for the ebook. Happy and safe holidays to you and your family! Thank you for all you have done here, I can’t wait until 2015 to see what comes next.
The new look is great! Have fun!
Cheery new logo (and I am not a money picture lover, but the style is cartoony and cute). :)
Good work and happy to be on your list. Happy Holidays and Happy Hair!!!!
Thanks, all, for your kind words!
Happy Holidays to you!
Same to you, Alexis!
Great job Christina! Love what you did with the site (and the logo)!
Thanks, Aaron! And thanks for your help!
