Today’s cheap trick comes from reader Michelle T.
She writes, “Most of us use hand sanitizer to be as germ-free as we can, but did you know that you can use it to remove ink from your hands? Try it!”
As you can see from my Minnesota-chapped hands in the photos above, it works! I used a little bit of Purell Hand Sanitizer, and with a little bit of rubbing, it took the ink right off my hand.
My guess is that it is the alcohol in the hand sanitizer that removes the ink. I like this method better than using alcohol because you get the added benefit of killing germs, too!

So when Quinn comes home every day with cartoons that Aureli and Narcy have drawn on his arm, I can get them off with Purell? Nice. *silly high school girls*
That’s one way to get rid of those girl cooties! :-)
Hand Sanitizer is the BEST whiteboard cleaner yet! Give it a try, especially on those nasty, shadowy boards (where someone used permanent marker by mistake, too).
You can buy it really cheap, in large bottles at the dollar store. The price on ‘real’ whiteboard cleaner is ridiculous plus it smells nasty.
That’s an excellent idea, Barbara! I hadn’t thought of that, but I bet it works great!
Hand Sanitizer is mostly made of alcohol and also works to get “Slime” (kids playdo like stuff) out of hair. Amazing!!!
WOW! That is very good info to know. Thanks, Julie!
