The little things you do can add up to big things.
That’s why today’s cheap trick is brilliantly simple:
Keep the change! Every time you pay cash for a purchase and get coins in return, put the change in a jar. Whenever you find a penny on the ground or a nickel under the couch cushions, put it in a change jar.
I’ve been keeping the change for years – some of it mine, and some of it found – and it adds up! I use an old jar that was at my grandmother’s. My husband uses an old glass Apple juice container. A couple of times each year we’re able to cash in our change at our bank for $20 to $50. We’ve even gotten the kids involved. They know that they can put whatever change they find in their own piggy banks.
You can use the change to support charitable causes, save for a family vacation, or just blow it on a night out. If you really wanted to see the savings grow, put the money you save with coupons in the jar. Then you’ll really notice your money-saving efforts!
