Easy Angry Birds Ornaments with Thrifty Supplies

Easy Angry Birds Ornaments

With just a few thrifty supplies, you can make these cute handmade Angry Birds ornaments for the upcoming holiday season.

The idea for these came from my preschool son, who has been on a bit of an Angry Birds kick lately. To be honest, I had a different idea of what I was going to use some of these ornaments for, but he said, “Mom, all three of those colors are Angry Birds colors. You should paint Angry Birds and the Pigs on them.” And so, the idea was born.

Easy Angry Birds Ornaments: The SuppliesI started out with buying this tube of 12 plastic ornaments in green, red, and gold from the Dollar Tree. These are the medium sized ones. They also had a tube of 9 larger ones, as well as a pack of 15 smaller one. The tube also included gold string with which to hang them.

Paint brushes and paint was something I already had, but you can pick up tubes of acrylic paint for as little as 50-cents a tube at Wal-Mart or JoAnn Fabrics. Since I already owned the paint and paint brushes I have not incurred any additional expense there, but really the color palette is simple and you only need to purchase white, black, green and dark yellow paint for these ones.

So, for about 9-cents an ornament and a little bit of time, I have some very cute and one-of-a-kind Angry Birds ornaments for my tree.

We have a tradition that my kids make a new ornament every year for their grandparents and godparents as well as our tree, so perhaps the kids will want to make their own Angry Birds ornaments. I do have 9 of them left.

Do you ever make your own ornaments? If so, do you have any ideas to share?

What kind of fun holiday gift-giving traditions do you do with your family?

We didn’t really make ornaments when I was a kid, I wonder why not. Looks fun!

Thanks everyone! They were fun to make and I amazed myself with actually being able to paint them and have them be recognizable. The kids love having them on our tree.
