As I was sitting down with my 6-year-old son, doing a free online piano lesson, I started to think about when I started doing piano lessons with my daughter when she was his age.
I still feel much the same way about these free online music lessons from Hoffman Academy even now, 3 years later. I love that the lessons are free and we can choose to buy the supplemental materials (which are inexpensive) and I love that we can do the lessons in the comfort of our home and not have to spend time running around.
The only downside is that we tend to go in streaks with piano lessons. Since we are not paying for these lessons we tend to let them take the back burner if things get too busy and we have too much going on that we did pay for. I do find my kids are better at learning from these lessons when I sit with them to pause the video or help clarify anything.
My experience with these free online piano lessons got me wondering what else we can do for free online lessons. I was surprised at how much I could find.

I plan to try out a free painting one with a friend. Do our own Paint Pub in my house! We just need to pick out which medium we want and a pick a painting to learn to do. A lot cheaper to hold a Paint Pub with friends at my house and a free online class and just having to buy supplies rather than going somewhere to do it.
That’s pretty amazing, learning to play the instrument while you’re in the comfort of your own home. I love that you can choose your preferred instrument and it’s not limited to guitars or piano lessons only, which are the two most common ones.
Technology sure is amazing! Now you can even get music lessons online, for free! I remember when I was younger, my Mum paid quite a sum for my piano and speech lessons.

My son has been using the free Hoffman Academy music lessons. They are so great
That is awesome. After I had already composed this blog post, I had made the decision to help fund the Hoffman Kickstarter campaign that ended up being hugely successful. I think the Hoffman piano lessons are great and I wanted my kids to continue on further and use Hoffman 2.0 and all the supplemental materials, so I did contribute through Kickstarter. But I think in the long run, the cost I paid for that will easily be re-couped over having to pay for in-person lessons, the materials and the gas. I look forward to having my kids continue with Hoffman.
