We spend so much time rushing from activity to activity. We spend so much time with our heads bent down looking at a screen. Sometimes I feel like I need to add a little color to my world.
So I’ll pick up the colored pencils or crayons and color. Yes, color. Just like the kids do.
Coloring is a huge stress reliever, improves my creativity and helps me appreciate how colors can work together or against each other in a piece of art.
I have learned from experience that the enjoyment I get from coloring doesn’t come from the kids’ coloring books filled with baby farm animals and SpongeBob or the free kids printable coloring pages I find online. Instead, I love finding free printable coloring pages for big kids and grown-ups.
The internet is full of some great free printable coloring pages for adults. Most of the designs are geometric, but some are beautiful drawings created by talented artists.
Here is a sampling of places you fan find free printable coloring pages for big kids and grown-ups:
Color Pages for Mom – a great resource of free coloring pages for adults with plenty of styles and designs to choose from. The geometric designs remind me of the old Dover geometric coloring books my grandma used to buy for me when I was a teen. And the nature lover in me adores all the landscape art to choose from. For a paid option you can always check out Adult Coloring Book Designs as there are plenty of options and variety in their books.
ColoringPrintables.net – This small collection of mostly geometric designs allows you to download the file as a PDF and print it easily.
Lee Hansen Graphics – I love the complexity of the designs on the free printable coloring pages for adults and teens at Lee Hanson Graphics. I see a lot of potential to creat some fun artwork for your wall with some of these designs.
Clip Art and Crafts – An impressive collection of free coloring pages, but you do have to suffer through an incredible amount of advertising to find them!
You can also find a variety of public domain black and white art that you could color in. Or do a search of Pinterest for adult coloring pages and you’ll find plenty of great designs to choose from.
To the best of my knowledge the images on these pages are suitable for all audiences, but be sure to check them out before your kids do if you’re concerned.
When I’m back-to-school shopping for the kids, I make sure to take advantage of the great prices on school supplies and make sure I have extra crayons, colored pencils, markers , and copy paper on hand to use for my coloring. I print out several designs at once and put them in a big manila envelop or file folder until the mood to color strikes. When we’re stuck inside on cold or rainy days, the kids and I can pull out our coloring pages and have fun creating some new art for our fridge.
You could also turn your works of art into a variety of craft projects. For example you could use the line drawings for wood burning projects, embroidery designs, or to create a one-of-a-kind t-shirt using heat-set crayons.
The only thing that can limit you is your imagination, and coloring (especially on free printable coloring pages) can help set your creative side free.

Cool. I just read somewhere too that coloring is a great stress-reliever. Who would have thought. I have also heard that doodling helps with retention (so doodle away kids!) :)
I’ve heard that about doodling, too. I wonder with all of the movement toward computers and i-pads in the school if doodling will become a lost art. I sure hope not!
Thanks for sharing these!
Hi Christina,
I am really excited about the fact that adults get back into drawing and find relaxation in it.
Please take a look at http://hattifant.com/colouringpages/ for more coloring pages in particular mandalas for stress relief.
Hope to see you there!
