There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you for a long time. It’s about something that well, quite honestly, drives me bananas.
Do you think it’s okay to break off the bananas you want at the grocery store?
I’ve never, ever done this, but I see people doing it all the time. It’s usually because people want a particular number of bananas (like just 3 instead of 6). But I’ve also seen people use this method to select the best bananas, leaving the stray ones with just a few odd spots behind.
I’ve never broken off any bananas in the store, simply because to me, it felt a little like breaking the merchandise. Bananas come in bunches. Pick the best bunch and move on. I wouldn’t break a soda can off a six-pack. I wouldn’t pull just one sleeve of crackers from a box of Ritz. So why would I break off a banana?
I see so many people breaking off bananas and leaving one or two or three bananas behind at the store, I’m starting to think that I might be the oddball. So I’d love to hear what you all think.
Is it okay? Do you break off bananas? Why do you (or don’t you) do it?
