As a school librarian I don’t have to go to “work” in the summer. So, being the dutiful daughter I am, I head to my family’s fruit farm for most of June, July, and August.
We grow all sorts of delicious fruit and sell it at local farmers markets. I love being with my family, the farm and I love the work.
What I didn’t love was the fact that for several weeks in a row, I didn’t have some personal supplies I wanted. I forgot my toothbrush one week after I had been to my house. I ran out of conditioner and a person just doesn’t want to borrow deodorant from their mother. I needed a better plan.
So, despite my fully stocked travel bag of mini-toiletries, I went to the store. I came home with one of everything I needed to keep myself happy. Full sized and full priced. Let me tell you it was worth it to know that when I hop in the shower after a full day of sweat and dirt I can lather my stinky self up with the products I prefer. Now that I have everything, I can leave it all at the farm and replace it if I need to.
How about you, dear readers?
Do any of you have campers/boats/cabins where you spend a lot of time? How do you handle living in 2 places? Perhaps your kids spend a lot of time in a home that isn’t yours? What have you found that is invaluable to have a second set of?
