When you spend your hard-earned money on something, you want it to last. You also want the products you buy to be safe.
A new website developed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission is hoping to make it easier to alert them to potentially dangerous products.
At SaferProducts.gov, you’ll have the ability to report harm (or risks of harm) caused by a product and be able to search for product safety information on things you own or are considering buying.
Businesses can sign up to receive instant alerts when a report is filed on one of their products. The goal is to speed up the process for alerting consumers to potentially dangerous products and to encourage businesses to respond more quickly to ensure consumer safety.
As long as this site can stay true to it’s mission (and represent honest claims), I think it will be a very useful resource (especially for parents of young children). For those people who have suffered an injury from a product, it will give you a place to voice those concerns.
While it may seem paranoid or tedious to do these things, being an informed consumer helps you protect your family and save you money.
