After a long, cold winter, even the nicest homes start to feel a bit stale. You could spend a bunch of money on new decor for your home, buy some new furniture, or buy chemical-laden air fresheners and cleaners.
Or you could try some of these no-cost ways to freshen up your home this spring.
No-Cost Ways to Freshen Up Your Home This Spring
Freshen up the look and feel of your home without spending a dime with these ideas.
Declutter.
One of the best ways to make your home feel more spacious is to get rid of things you no longer need or want in your home. Take time to go through every closet and drawer and bookshelf in your home and clear out the clutter. A clean, organized space can do a lot to make a home feel larger and give it a fresh look, and all it takes is a bit of time.
Deep clean.
Once the clutter is out, you can give your home a deep clean. Wash the windows and the curtains, scrub the floors, clean the upholstery, and shake out the rugs. Get all that dust and dirt out of your home so that you can truly enjoy it.
Open the windows.
Let some fresh air into your home. After a long season of everything being shut up for the winter, your home can feel a little stale and stuff. Open the windows and let in the fresh air.
Rearrange your space.
You don’t need to buy new things to give your home a fresh look. Rearrange the furniture in a room or two of your home. Move accessories from one room to another to mix things up. We all tend to stay stuck in the same routines and the same designs, but moving things around can really make your home feel like a new space without spending any cash.
Upcycle your stuff.
Freshen up your home with “new”-to-you accessories made from things you already have around the house. You can transform old bottles into home decor, recycle old cans into decorative storage, or make a beachy summer wreath. Use paint and craft materials you already have to dress up an old dresser or makeover a lamp shade.
Make a trade.
Consider swapping a few home decor accessories with a friend or neighbor. You’ll get a new look for your home. They’ll get a new look for their home, and neither of you will spend a dime.
Use scents to freshen up your home.
If your home is smelling a bit stale, freshen things up with homemade air fresheners. A couple of drops of essential oil in an air filter can make your house smell lovely. You could do a little baking, or simmer a little cinnamon and cloves or orange peel on the stove to make your home smell good. Toss some lemon wedges in your garbage disposal to freshen it up, too.
Use the outdoors for decor.
Bring a little bit of the outside in when you use nature to freshen up your home decor. Pick flowers from your garden, fill a bowl with fresh veggies on your kitchen table, or create a centerpiece with pine cones or driftwood.
With just a little bit of effort and no money out of pocket, you can spruce up the look and feel of your home. And when you make your home a place you want to be, you can save even more money.
I love when spring comes around and you can finally open up those windows. Definitely one of my more favorite seasons; however, I never really like thar whole cleaning aspect of it;)
