Well, we’re half way through the No Eating Out Challenge and we’re adapting.
One of the biggest challenges for me has had to do with running errands.
We live about 30 minutes from everywhere, and while rural living does have some financial advantages, this No Eating Out Challenge has made us re-think our shopping habits.
Typically we run errands whenever we want and schedule appointments as we see fit. We would grab a fast food lunch if we were in town at the time, or grab some take-out on the way home for dinner.
But all of that is forbidden during the No Eating Out Challenge, so we’ve had to adapt. I’m much more aware of how much time we’ll be spending running errands and whether or not it will run close to a meal time.
I’ve been trying to schedule things so that they don’t push us into a tempting situation. I’ve been bringing snacks with me when we go places to tide us over until we get home.
The other area in which we’ve had to adapt is date night. My husband and I love to go to dinner and a movie for our dates, but during the challenge, we’ve had to make some changes. We did have a snack at the movie theater (as I previously confessed), but we went to a matinee and then had a meal at home, just the two of us. If you’re doing the challenge and are facing this same situation, consider going out for coffee instead of a meal, or making a special meal at home before you go out.
While this challenge has not been easy for us, and I do miss eating out, I’m pleased with how well we’ve been doing so far. And it’s a good feeling to have some money in checking for a change.
How is the challenge going for you? How are you adapting?
