OxiClean Helped Me Tackle Tough Laundry Stains

By Justin Weinger Leave a Comment

Note: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for OxiClean. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and promotional item as a thank you for participating. All opinions are my own and not those of Mom Central Consulting or OxiClean. Please read our disclosure policy for more information.

My family is messy.  All 5 of us.  I swear that sometimes our clothes are able to magnetically attract food and dirt.

So when I was asked if I would be willing to try OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover, it wasn’t hard for me to say, “YES!”  I’ve tried numerous other name brand stain removers with some success, but had never tried OxiClean.  I was eager to give it a go!

OxiClean Versatile Stain RemoverMy lesson started with getting to know more about the product:

OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover is a chlorine-free and color-safe oxygen-based stain fighter that is activated by water to lift stains and brighten your clothing.  It is a powder that works with your laundry detergent to boost its cleaning power.

Sounds good, but would it work?

Test #1 – Boys’ clothes

I tried my first challenge – my kids’ clothes.  I have three boys – ages 8 and 6 and they are always getting food and other mystery stains on their clothes.  I followed the directions on the back of the OxiClean container and sprinkled a small amount of the OxiClean powder in the drum of my HE washing machine before I tossed in their clothes.

The result:  No lingering stains and the clothes did appear to be visibly brighter.  So far, I was pretty happy.  I like minimal effort laundry!

Test #2 – Yellow Mustard

My next test was a tough one.  My husband had gotten yellow mustard on a pair of khaki shorts last summer.  I had unsuccessfully tried several name brand stain removal products and even tried “old school” Fels Naptha soap with no luck.  Being the cheapskate that I am, I couldn’t part with the shorts and they sat on top of my washing machine for the past year.

Yellow mustard is really the bane of my existence when it comes to laundry, by the way.

For this challenge, I soaked the khaki shorts in a mixture of water and OxiClean (once again, following the easy directions on the back of the package).  I let it soak about 8 hours.  (The package says up to 6 hours, but I forgot about it overnight!) Then I just washed the shorts with the rest of our laundry.

That yellow mustard stain was GONE!  I couldn’t believe it!  So many other attempts had failed to get rid of that awful mustard stain and OxiClean easily took care of it a whole year later!

Final Thoughts

I tried OxiClean on several other stains and it worked well, with one exception – an old rust stain that had been set for some time.  Overall I was impressed with the cleaning power of OxiClean and thanks to the info I found on the OxiClean website, I’m looking forward to trying OxiClean on my carpet and other hard surfaces.

I’m thrilled to find a reasonably-priced stain removal product that can help me extend the life of our messy family’s clothing.   And I’m happy it’s easy to use, too!

Do you use OxiClean?  What do you think?
