I love watching Food Network. I drool over the food and imagine all the scrumptious things I could prepare for my family if only I knew what I was doing in the kitchen.
I love to eat, and I like to cook, but only when I have a plan, and when the recipes are easy to follow. I will abandon an entire cookbook if it has even one recipe with an ingredient I know I’ll never find in my grocery store. Anything that seems remotely exotic to this Midwestern meat-and-potatoes girl, like scallops or capers…. and that cookbook goes back on the shelf.
So when I was asked if I wanted to review the new Food Network cookbook, Food Network Magazine 1,000 Easy Recipes: Super Fun Food for Every Day I had my reservations: After all, I’m a little intimidated by the talent I see on the Food Network. But I figured, if the book had “Easy” in the title, it was probably true, and with 1,000 recipes, there had to be something in there that I liked.
It turns out, I don’t just like this cookbook, I love it! Food Network Magazine 1,000 Easy Recipes is a gorgeous cookbook, filled with 1,200+ recipes covering fun appetizers, delicious dinners, sweet desserts, and more.
The recipes are short – no more than a paragraph each – which is perfect for those of us with busy schedules. And this collection is great for families with picky eaters – there are whole sections on burgers & dogs, paninis, kebabs, and pizza and pasta. The desserts are fabulous – especially the “no-bake” ones. Who knew there were so many fabulous ways to make S’mores?
In addition to the fabulous recipes, this book is filled with tips to help wannabe foodies like me. You’ll find quick tips sprinkled throughout the book, along with a guide to bacon, uses for leftover cranberry sauce and tips for making the perfect popcorn.
Because Food Network Magazine 1,000 Easy Recipes utilizes ingredients that are easy to find and easy to cook with, it’s a great addition to the frugal kitchen. You can create a culinary masterpiece and still have money in your wallet!
