I caught myself wondering about the progress I was making on my 2013 New Year’s Resolutions.
And that’s when I realized I couldn’t remember what my New Year’s Resolutions were.
It’s hard to accomplish your goals when you aren’t focused on them. I can’t believe I even wrote a post about Why New Year’s Resolutions Fail and STILL dropped the ball on mine.
So, what were my goals and what am I going to do about them?
Tame the paper tiger. My goal was to get our personal and business paperwork under control. I did make a half-hearted attempt at this in the spring, but have not been good at keeping up. Trying to continue to use a broken system isn’t working for me. I’m going to need to rethink how to keep the paper under control, especially when school is about to start.
Establish allowances and teach kids about money management. We’ve had several conversations about it, but haven’t pulled the trigger on it. I think I’m over-thinking it. I’m too worried that I’ll create an unsustainable system that will make things worse instead of better. We have done some money lessons with the kids’ birthday money and they’ve earned some extra money for little jobs around the house, but we don’t have a formal plan in place. Any advice for those who’ve been there would be greatly appreciated.
Set monthly goals and hold regular budget meetings. We haven’t held monthly meetings or set monthly goals, but we have met 6 times over the past 8 months, and it has been helpful. We’re due for another money-talk soon.
Cut back on soda. This resolution has been a massive failure. I think I’ve been drinking MORE instead of less. I may have to do another 30 Day No Soda Challenge soon to refocus on this goal.
Get caught up on scrapbooking. Another resolution I’ve been neglecting. It seems when life gets busy, this is one of the things that’s easy to put off. I would really like to get caught up on this, and have decided to make a date with myself to work on my photo books.
Some of you may question whether I should even bother with these goals, but they ARE important to me, I just haven’t been good at making them a priority. I’m lucky that there’s still time left to make some positive change this year.
How are you doing on your goals?
