The following is a guest post from my frugal friend and guest blogger Susan.
I had no idea Home Depot was that open minded!
I put blown-in insulation in my house this weekend. Well, my dad did most of the work getting the attic ready so I think he actually gets the credit but that isn’t the point.
As the Home Depot manager was helping to load 50 bags of insulation in the truck, the conversation turned to the economic situation and other home improvement stores in town. In the course of chatting, he told us the Home Depot honored competitors coupons.
HOLD THE PHONE!
I had a 10% off my entire purchase coupon from Lowe’s sitting on my kitchen table! I went back the next day with my receipt and coupon and they were able to make the discount retroactive. I don’t think that is their policy but since I had another whole cartful of stuff in front of me and looked pretty grubby and a little haggard, I think they took pity on me.
The moral of my story is this, before you make a major purchase and you have a coupon for a local Home Depot competitor take it in to the service counter and see if they will honor it. It might just save you a little money.
