I spotted the dollar bill on the floor by the vending machines on my way to the mall restrooms.
There was an “A-ha!” moment as I spied the folded single on the ground.
But as I reached to pick up the dollar, I hestitated.
It wasn’t mine. It didn’t feel right to take it. I felt completely torn. Do I turn it into the mall office? Do I take the $1 and consider myself luck? Do I leave it there?
If it had been a penny, a dime, or even a quarter, I wouldn’t have hesitated to pocket the coin. And if it had been more than $1, I would have picked it up and turned it in to the mall office .
But the thought of picking up that dollar bill felt weird to me. It didn’t seem right to take it. So I left it there. Which didn’t really feel right either.
I figured that I didn’t really need the dollar. And perhaps someone visiting the mall or working at the mall needed it more than me. If nothing else, a janitor may be able to buy a treat during his (or her) shift.
What would you have done? Would you have picked up the dollar? Would you have kept it?
