As a busy stay-at-home mom, I’m always on the look out for simple ways to bring in a little extra spending cash.
One of my favorite ways to do this is through MyPoints. MyPoints is a site that rewards you with points for simple tasks like reading e-mails, printing coupons, shopping through their website, searching the internet, taking surveys, and more.
I’ve been a member of MyPoints for nearly three years now and I have earned hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards. I love to use the gift cards to buy Christmas and birthday gifts, or just to splurge on myself. It really doesn’t take much time at all to start earning points.
Here are some tips for maximizing your MyPoints experience:
Set up a separate e-mail account. By signing up for MyPoints you are allowing retailers to market to you. You will be getting a lot of e-mail. I recommend setting up a separate e-mail account for these types of offers. I also recommend using your e-mail program to create filters. You can tell your mail to put all of the “MyPoints” mail into a dedicated folder and then you can look at the e-mails once a week. Most e-mails you look at will reward you with 5 points.
Complete the surveys. At the very least, you should complete the basic profile to earn up to 60 points. If you’re comfortable sharing your opinions, you can complete more surveys for additional points.
Add the toolbar. You can use MyPoints to search the internet using their toolbar. You can earn up to 75 points each month just by using MyPoints to search the internet.
Refer a friend. Earn up to 500 points when you refer your friends to MyPoints. Once your friends have signed up, they become part of your network, and you’ll earn 10 percent of whatever points they earn each month.
Print coupons. Earn 10 points for each coupon you print and redeem from MyPoints. This is an easy way to rack up points.
Make purchases. You can shop online at hundreds of retailers through MyPoints. Throughout the year, MyPoints will offer special points offers at select stores, and you will also receive special offers for your birthday.
MyPoints is definitely not a way to get rich quick, but if you spend a lot of time on the internet and you don’t mind clicking through a few extra e-mails, it is an easy way to help you stretch your budget.
